Weather Proof Housing

As per IEC standard and Class rules, AMP Cable Reel on board shall be installed in a weather protected area, in this case recommendation is to provide a Weather Proof Housing for each AMP Cable Reel.

▪ IEC 80005-1 2022 7.7 Storage, a) ship-board equipment is stored in dry spaces; NOTE Temporary coverings are not considered to satisfy the requirements listed in 7.7.

▪ DNV rules Part 6 Chapter 7 Section 5 ELECTRICAL SHORE CONNECTIONS - SHORE POWER
2.4.3 Cable management system
2.4.3.4 Storage of the cable management system shall be in a weather protected area.

Advantages by using Weather Proof Housing:

▪ Physical protected against heavy seas and mechanical damages.

▪ Storage of AMP Cable Reel in a weather protected area which could fulfill IEC and class rules.

▪ Easily for maintenance and extend the lifecycle of AMP Cable Reel.

▪ Human free operation principle.

Human free operation principle can be applied for cable pay-out or pay-in operation, in case the AMP cable reel and Weather proof housing is manufactured by the same maker, the cable guide could coupling with the watertight hatch for cable outlet, when pay-out or pay-in the ship-to-shore connection cable, first the cable guide will push out the watertight hatch and then cable will pay out directly from the outlet of cable guide, no need human to carry ship-to-shore connection cable with big plugs to the outlet of cable guide.
